Holding Each Other Up

~Exodus 17:12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

~Mark 2:3-4 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

Everyone should have a friend like those in today’s text! There is no greater way to display one’s love than by being there for someone in need – really being there.

Aaron and Hur literally held up Moses’ arms when he couldn’t keep them up, even for one more minute! They didn’t do an “O.K.” job – Moses’ arms were steady until the sun went down! How amazing is that friendship!

The account of the sick person with the palsy was also an inspiration to me. Four people decided to work together for the sake of their friend! They tied his bed to ropes and crawled up to the roof of the house where Jesus was preaching. They eased their friend down on his bed so that he would have an opportunity to be healed by Jesus.  They didn’t know whether or not Jesus would even have time to heal their friend but they made sure that their friend would have every opportunity possible to be healed!

How far would you go to help a loved one? How far would you go to help a friend? Wouldn’t you want a friend like this during your time of need? One doesn’t necessarily need a helping hand only when they are sick. In Moses’ case, he was totally exhausted and needed someone to keep his arms raised. In both accounts, these friends gave up their time and energy for the sake of helping their friend.

I’m sure if we sat here long enough, we can all think of at least one person who is sick, weary, in need of a ride, or simply needs an encouraging word. If you are a caregiver, you probably get quite discouraged at constantly being pulled from side to side.  You will never know, this side of Heaven, how much you have helped in this sick person’s life.  Don’t give up!

I love this post!!! It is a very important truth too. We all as Christians need someone to hold us up from time to time. I know I have gotten down and weary at times and there has always been someone right there to encourage me and help me through. I know the Lord is always there to help us through….but it is nice to know there are others there for us as well. I don’t ever want to be guilty of not being there for a fellow brother and/or sister in Christ when they need someone to encourage them. The Lord knows you have been that to me more times than I can count. I love you Sister and appreciate all of those times.

Thank you, Sis. Julie, for visiting!!! It amazes me how self centered people have gotten in this world. It is definitely a “me” generation! I’m thankful for on-line friendships, such as yours, which keep me encouraged in the Lord!
